Antique lighting can provide your house with a decor full of charm, tranquility and rustic feeling. Sometimes people think that antique lighting might not go with the modern decor of the house. Here is a solution. You can blend in the antique lighting fixtures with the modern decor by remodeling them to change its appearance accordingly.

The most common antique lighting fixtures are the chandeliers. Existent from centuries, these were part of every royal household and courts. Along with serving the purpose of lighting up the place, they also added to the decor. The ruling class and nobility were the ones who used these kinds of lighting fixtures. The light of the chandeliers came from candles or oiled wicks hidden within the fixtures.

To create a mystic ambience, you can create a candle light like ambience with your choice of bulbs. There are certain customized bulbs that shimmer to give candlelight like ambience. This is one antique lighting style which would emit an ancient aura but in complete sync with the state-of-the-art set up of your interior.

The antique lighting is a priceless piece of art made out of glass. These are regarded not only as invaluable but exhibit a lot about the rich cultural past. If you think of sharing the credits with the ancient kings by fixing such lightings then you need to look for the right things.

One of the most important things is the genuineness of the piece of antique lighting. You are not careful it you can lose money. Get the help of an expert to check the authenticity of the product, or visit a reputed shop which can provide you with the genuine lighting. You can also visit few auctions to know in details about such kind of lightings, their authenticity and so on.

Apart from auction houses, curio or antique shops also keep these articles. The more exclusive your light is, the more expensive the cost could be. Naturally, antique lightings are not newly manufactured and brand new. There has been a cost of maintenance which contributes to the antique value and the final price. Some of the popular fixtures are:

- Smoke and Bells- Dating back to the 1870s, these lighting fixtures were quite popular in those times. Such was their popularity that they had left a mark on the then society itself. The burning gas flames emitted smoke in ordinary lamps of those times. With the use of the smoke bell, the effects of the smoke were minimized.

-Tasso Sconce- This particular antique lighting fixture used a single light. The Beaux Arts shade of these lamps was complimented by the brass metal finish.

-Moose Antlers- This type of antique lighting was created during the 1850s. It has a 2 tier lighting fixture with eight lamps. The total width of the masterpiece is around five feet.

The demand for such antique lighting has increased significantly in the past few years. People prefer to experiment with the decor of their house, therefore the demand. The recent trend in antique lighting is the blend of both modern and old. This brings out a new form of style.

A thing that will definitely feature in the list of the most precious things is gold. You can say that there are a whole lot of precious and semi precious stones as well but they can hardly match up to the popularity of gold throughout the globe. When you set out to buy antique gold, you are dealing with pieces of this precious metal that date back to antiquity. There are different pieces that comprise an antique gold collection. They are diverse in every aspect, be it their size, forms or even their place of origin.

There are a number of forms in which antique gold is available. Jewelry is the most common form in which the gold is available. If you know how to trace it, you can collect gold jewelry pieces dating back to centuries. The common examples are family heirlooms that have been passed on from one generation to the next. These old family heirlooms are also valuable for the long history associated to each piece.

An antique gold ring is perhaps the most common of all jewelry found in the world. A collector can find immense value and worth of such a piece. A particular piece of antique jewelry can give us an in-depth knowledge about the details of the craftsmanship that was in vogue at the time the piece was crafted. It may also tell a story by itself. Many antique gold jewelry specimens carry emblems and inscriptions that offer valuable hints to the origin of the piece and the owner of the piece as well.

Exquisitely fabricated gold jewelry such as earrings and necklaces are also found when looking for antique jewelry. Unlike modern jewelry which is minimalist, such pieces are generally elaborate and vary in design according to their origins and the tastes of the old owners. Some notable antique gold jewelry harks back to specific eras such as Victorian, Georgian or Elizabethan.

Within the scope of antique gold, golden watches have become a separate field of study altogether. Over the past two centuries, great watchmakers, many of them Swiss, have manufactured exquisite golden watches, often studded with jewels, both on the outside and within the watch movements. These pocket watches are invaluable collector’s items today and at least one golden watch definitely needs to be part of your collection if you are serious about antiques.

You must be wondering where to get antique gold? The answer to this is the World Wide Web. Here is a great opportunity for an antique collector to interact with individuals who deal in such stuff instead of having to visit antique dealers, pawn shops or even auction houses in person. There are many people who wish to sell of their family heirloom possessions and looking for a potential buyer. You do need to be careful when you are dealing over the Internet. If you are not aware of the ways to determine an authentic antique, you may end up buying a fake one.

When you take the initiative of buying antique gold you need to invest both time and energy into it. You need to study about these antiques in great detail so that you acquire the best piece for your collection. You need to build up a good rapport with similar interests and always keep looking for such valuable pieces.

Collecting pieces of antique gold is surely an expensive hobby but when you see the same pieces glittering and shining in your hands, the feeling of satisfaction is unparallel. Now with an antique gold piece in your collection, even you can say that you possess piece of history.

Collecting antiques has always been a major hobby for those who have a fondness towards art and quality craftsmanship. Of late collection of antique toy also gained tremendous popularity among collectors. It offers you a unique getaway from present life and allows you to live your life in the midst of the cherished memories of your childhood. With the availability of numerous classic items these days you can decorate your home the way you like. An antique toy adds to the beauty of the living room. Moreover, you can display your valuable collection all over the house especially the places they fit in.

Collecting an antique toy can be enriching, rewarding and fun for all toy lovers. For many people these antique collectibles holding a unique historical significance makes a great investment apart from been a mere hobby. These days the classic toys are put on auction by dealers, private collectors and others. If you possess any classic toy you can easily earn a lot of profit out of it. For instance, some official records suggest that one of the collections of Mickey Mouse dating back to World War II was put on sale and was ultimately sold for $1500.

If you are wondering how to differentiate between an antique toy and a usual toy then you should know that toys manufactured around or before the World War II aging more than 50 years or so are usually considered as antique toys. However, some people suggest that toys over 10 years if found in reasonable condition can also qualify in the list of antique toy. While considering antique toys, you should look for the condition and the age of the collectible you want to purchase.

Games are not very popular among the collectors as they do not last this long. Also, wooden and metal made antique toy would be the preferable one over glass or plastic made- reason being the same, longevity. This is the reason that dolls are very popular among the keen collectors.

The popularity of the dolls is for its longevity and so the antique toy collectors are always keen on buying dolls. When you go and buy a real ugly looking doll for a very low price from some garage sale people might think why on earth. But if you are an expert in antique toy collection you know that this toy can fetch you good money because of its rarity and unusual appearance. These factors can interest many of the keen antique toy collectors.

If you want to become one of the experts on antique toy then you have to keep certain things in mind. These tips can be a great help for you to strike a great deal. Your first choice should be for those in original packing. If the toy has been taken out of the packing then it is not in its original form. Though the damage can be overlooked but the oil and grime sticking on to the toy should be removed.

When it comes to the maintenance of antique toy you should always handle it with a lot of care. Avoid holding them with your bare hands as invisible dust particle can damage the surface of this valuable object, rather use cotton gloves whenever you clean it. It will be better if you can store it in an enclosed cabinet.

The ones that are most popular amongst antique toy collections are the mechanical toys. Their actions are quite similar to the animation works that we come across these days. They are very popular amongst antique toy enthusiasts. Small horse drawn chariots or carts were popular with kids almost five decades back but at present when they own cars, these toy carts are an indispensable part of their collections.

A piece of antique glass would definitely catch your eye even if it is in a room full of other ornate items. These exquisite pieces come in diverse shapes and sizes and add to the decor of your interiors. You can always buy an antique glass piece and use it as a showpiece. You will find every other visitor enquiring about it and asking where they will find one for their homes as well. The stained glass found in cathedrals is a classic example of such glass.

It is said that till the later years of the 18th century, glassware was not used for domestic purposes. Glass pieces that have existed for more than a period of 75 years are considered to be a part of the category of antique glass. Specialists in this business, however, prefer to call it ‘collectibles’ rather than antique.

There are others who differ in their opinion and believe that a piece of glass need not date back to antiquity to be regarded as an antique piece. Its value depends upon its make, its unique nature and its demand amongst the antique dealers as they are the ones who can distinguish between an authentic antique glass piece and any other ordinary glass like magnifying glass.

An antique glass is not necessarily a mirror or a crystal clear glass piece. Stained glass is a good example of this kind. A clear glass is a good choice as a collectible because when placed in a correct position, it makes unique patterns with light. With the beam of light passing the glass, it reflects on the ceiling and walls. This creates a beautiful aura and adds a depth to the room. On the contrary, a when the light bean passes through colored glass, the shimmer is dispersed in the room adding a different flavor to it.

Antique glass is not only available with an assortment of colors but it is also available for users in a variety of shapes and types. The most common type in the category of antique glass includes milk glass, carnival glass, Victorian glass, Depression glass, American pattern glass, pressed glass, art glass, historical glass, flint glass and opalescent glass. Each form has its own distinct features. Amongst these available varieties, the Flint glass and the American pattern glass are the most popular ones among users.

It is not difficult to search for antique glass pieces in present times, given the availability of online resources. There are a huge number of online stores that deal in such glass pieces. However, you need to be aware of the intricate details of such a piece of glass to get the best deals. It also helps to have information about the current market price.

Carnival glass is one of the most popular antique glass collectibles and comes in a wide variety of colors. The radiant exterior of the glass is due to the fact that it is colored with metallic salts at a time when it is hot and after which it is put back into the fire. This heating gives the glass its beautiful appearance. Though this form of glass was originally manufactured to be an expensive form, it did not become as popular as it was expected to be at that point of time.

Depression glass has also gained popularity as a form of antique glass. It was manufactured at the time of the Great Depression in the United States and therefore acquired its name from it. Macbeth Evans, Federal Glass and Hocking Glass were some of its key manufacturers and sold it at that time at a meager amount. It is mainly available in pink, green and blue colors. Its nominal price kept its sale on track even in the face of a severe financial crunch.

Since there are so many varieties available, choosing the right antique glass for your home collection becomes a tough job. Keeping them in a safe position is very important; one slip can cause a big loss. And be cautious while picking up the right piece. Else, instead of antique glass you may end up buying a magnifying glass for a fortune.

It’s no surprise that if someone loves the game, they’ll love golf memorabilia. There is nothing like owning a piece of history in the sport, whether it’s a golf ball, golf glove, shoes, clubs, shirts, or anything else used by the pros. The best part is you don’t have to play the game. In fact, this could be a big boost for your business or a great gift idea for a friend.

Giving unique golf memorabilia may bring excitement to their life and collectors like any kind of memorabilia, including signed professional golfer’s gloves, balls, shoes, hats, clubs or hand autographed photos. A golf gift basket that contains unique golf items is a wonderful idea for any golfer! Most gift basket distributors will allow you to personally choose what items you want your basket to have so you can probably include any unique golf merchandise you have in mind.

For instance, maybe the person you’re buying for isn’t a huge Greg Norman fan. However, he or she doesn’t have any type of memorabilia from this player. So to keep the gift fun you can give them a golf gift basket full of gifts that includes the Greg Norman piece. Keep in mind it doesn’t matter what player you go after, each of the memorabilia pieces come with a certificate of authenticity.

Then of course you can’t forget about the great Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Just a napkin signed by either of these guys would bring all their older generation fans out of the woodwork. However, you tell someone there are several different Tiger Woods pieces and the place will be overloaded with millions of fans. They’re all considered legends and will be ones for eternity. If you have children, don’t be afraid to get them into the game with signed golf balls, golf shoes, or even photos and clubs.

Sometimes you’ll come across an individual who has just about every golf collecting item imaginable. Usually these are the hardest people to buy for, because you don’t know exactly what they have when golf memorabilia is concerned. However, when you come across an individual like this, rare and limited edition golf gifts are your best bet. Whether they’re numbered golf balls, player cards, or just something that isn’t something everyone can own. Even today, antique golf memorabilia is bought and sold for thousands of dollars on the open market.

The next time you walk into an office, check around the room. Often times you will come across a dentist, doctor, executive, or teacher who loves the game of golf. If they do you can rest assured there are pictures of the greats hanging on their walls. You might even find a few autographs along the way, but it will definitely be the focal point of the office. This happens all the time, which is why many companies use golf as an incentive for doing well in the company.

Just remember, it’s not always the most expensive gifts that make the most impact on an individual. Golf memorabilia gift baskets can allow you to give your friend, co-worker, or loved one a little piece of each era all wrapped into one. Who knows, you may go with an autographed ball, golf balls, a shirt, and bag a tees, while someone else picks an entirely different golf memorabilia gift basket. In the end you just can’t beat them since they’re for any occasion.

Antique furniture captures the mind of people who all have an affinity for art and visual romanticism. This person must also be interested in collecting furniture that is unique and has an antique value. Antiques can include rare jewelry, books, artifacts and several other unique collectible objects. One of the most popular forms of antique collection is antique furniture for example king size 4 poster beds, dressers, dining tables, high-backed chairs, and so on.

Owning a piece of antique furniture can add to the style quotient of your home. But this becomes a difficult task if you do not possess the knowledge of the same. You need to know about the timber that was fashioned to make the piece, the particular style used as well as the finish of the final product. If you are unaware about these details, you could land up buying an ordinary piece of furniture thinking it to be an antique.

Don’t panic if you have no idea about how to go about buying a piece of antique furniture. There are certain tricks that can help you. Take for example, an antique chair. When you go out to buy it, look for the edges and feet of the chair. If these parts seem to be made from different timber than the rest of the chair, you can be sure that the piece was repaired and is thus of a lesser value.

You can easily differentiate between antique furniture and regular furniture by carefully observing the difference in the structural design. Old furniture usually follows the plank-style of construction whereas the regular furniture follows newer tongue and groove type of construction. The antique furniture are mostly constructed out of wood from trees like oak, mahogany, chestnut, walnut, beech, pine, elm, ebony, teak, rosewood and many more.

There are many places where you can buy antique furniture from. You need to find out the right antique dealer who would give you the best piece. There are several online stores that deal in antiques. The price of an antique depends upon its quality; its age and its authenticity and you can determine these by its present condition, color and patina, modifications that have been made to the original piece, its construction and its proportions.

Antique furniture has different designing styles such as Oriental furniture, English furniture, Continental furniture, Georgian, furniture from the time of Renaissance, Medieval and Gothic furniture. This type of furniture can completely change the decor of your house making it look grand and majestic. Coupled with special kind of lighting the antique furniture are being used by many people to decorate their houses.

Purchasing antique furniture in order to decorate your house does not end the story. You also need to maintain this furniture properly to avoid damage and discoloration. Follow a routine dusting session. Don’t expose them to direct sunlight. Keep a watch that no mould grows on the surface of the antique furniture.

For buying a piece of antique furniture for your home, you need to shell out a good amount of cash. However, if you buy from a reliable place and get an original piece of antique furniture, it is worth spending on.

Cars manufactured before 1959 are usually termed as classic cars by some experts. The real definition of a classic car may be a bit subjective with difference of opinions among car specialists, car associations, automotive clubs and car manufacturers etc. In general sense, an old car is categorized as classic one. Owning a vintage or a classic car has been a popular hobby amongst car lovers.

The classic car is defined as a distinctive automobiles built during the Pre World War 2 era beginning after the Great Depression of 1929 till the emergence of the modern era of automobiles in the 70s. The classic car era can be divided into two categories, the pre war era and the post war era.

During the pre world war time, cars manufactured with enclosed structures and incorporated fenders were the most preferred ones. In the later years, cars with sedan body including storage boots or trunks became popular and these kinds of quality models ruled the roads for a long time. With the end of the era of classic cars, the use of previously popular models like phaetons, touring vehicles and the open-top runabouts also diminished and slowly got out of use as well.

The running boards, wings, and headlights gradually got incorporated in the body of the car. A number of technological developments took place during this time such as the all synchromesh gearbox, V8 flathead engine, front wheel transmission, monocoque body V12 engines and so on. All these contributed to the development of the classic car. Near the end of the pre war era the number of car manufacturer declined due to the constant mergers and acquisitions of the small auto manufacturers by the giants.

Most popular of all classic cars in the before World War II phase were Alvis Speed 20, Rolls Royce, Citroen Traction Avant, Volkswagen, Bugatti Type 57 etc.

War end heralds another phase of classic car. The automobile industry had suffered a great impact of both the wars. The big names of the industry had been washed out. Different new models and makes of different types of cars came into being. Many new coupes and tourers were introduced by the emerging manufacturers who were desperate to leave their marks.

After the war many of the automobile giants felt the need for smaller family type cars. Cars like Ford Consul, Morris Minor and Rover P4 became very popular. The Volkswagen Beetle the largest sold car model till date became a hit in the European and US markets because of its compact size and shape. Beetle remained the largest sold car till the production was stopped in 2003.

It was in this phase that requirement of small family cars gave free passage to Japanese car making companies which succeeded in feeding the market with adequate supply. However, a British Car Mini, small in size, too was very popular in those days.

The sports car is another section which saw some changes. A classic car can be a sports car as well. Ferrari 250 series or Porsche’s 356 Roadstar ruled the tracks and road of Europe.

Technical developments of classic car resulted in the form of inclusion of double wishbone suspension, uni-body shape; McPherson Strut suspension; twin V and boxer engines that took place in later years. To improve the performance of engines in terms of power and speed, upgradation and developments were also initiated from time to time.
