Antique jewelry is worth a lot of money, so if it’s something you’re interested in, you normally have to be prepared for a substantial outlay. But if you know what you’re doing, it’s not difficult to pick some items up at wholesale prices.

Quite a lot of people sell secondhand jewelry via online auction sites such as eBay. This is an easy way of browsing but the prices are not be the lowest to be found. Sellers on these sites usually know the market value of their pieces and are trying to get the best price they can.

It’s worth keeping an eye on your local paper for estate or garage sales. They provide excellent occasions for picking up jewelry for just a few dollars. The people selling it often don’t know its real value, so the things you buy on the cheap could turn out to be worth a lot of money.

Of course you’re not going to win the jackpot every time, but some people really do have treasure stored away in their attics. Don’t despair if you find you’ve bought jewelry that has no value. You might be able to disassemble it and use the parts in a new way.

Once you’ve discovered that there’s antique jewelry to be found at yard and estate sales, you’ll be keen to keep visiting them. The excitement of spotting a bargain can be quite addictive.

Very cheap pieces can be found at estate sales where young people are selling off what they consider to be their grandmother’s ugly old jewelry at extremely low prices.

Make sure you do keep checking eBay for bargains, too. You’ll need to cover the jewelry, antique and vintage categories regularly if you’re serious about making money.

If you find something you want to bid on, check up on the seller’s reputation and ask questions to make sure you know what you’re buying. It’s safer to make use of the escrow facility that eBay recommends, too.

Owning 50s vintage dresses provide insight into an exciting era for dressmaking. The Great Depression long gone, the various restrictions of WWII were lifted, manufactures were all geared up for mass production of quality products, and women wanted the glamour of Paris. Take all that and stir it together and you have an economy ready to take off.

Most of the 50s vintage dresses were designed and stylized after the Dior’s fashion collection released in Spring-Summer 1947. The two lines, Corolla and Eight, have been famously termed as the ‘New Look’. The shape that marked this New Look was a large bust, small waist and a skirt whose length extended a bit below mid-calf.

Some of the most notable American designers of 50s vintage dresses were Claire McCardell, Mainbocher (Main Rousseau Bocher), and Galanos Originals (James Galanos).

A female fashion designer, Claire McCardell, is highly acclaimed and famous for her effort in sidelining the dominance of French style and bringing the American fashion into popularity. She has been a leader in the development of the comfortable and easy going, ready-to-wear fashion in the US. During the fashionable era of 50s she designed clothes that could be mass-produced and were functional, simple and subtle in look. Last but not least; she is the driving force that was responsible for creating the “American Look”, which was casual, unique and chic.

McCardell received various awards and accomplishments before passing away in 1958. She was presented with Women’s National Press Club Award in 1950. The Frank Perls Gallery presented an art exhibition of her dress designs in 1953. And to top it all off Time magazine placed her on the cover of their May 2, 1955 issue. McCardell has been mentioned numerous times since her passing for her incredible contributions to fashion.

Main Rousseau Bocher, being an American couturier native of Chicago, opened his first fashion house, from 1930 to 1939, in Paris, after serving his part in the First World War. He moved to New York in the year 1940 and already had a good amount of publicity under his belt when he moved to New York. He was the first celebrity in the French fashion world from, the US. The Moinbocher design quality had reached a very high stand, by 1950, and the Mainbocher name had a conservative and eternal elegance attached to it by that year.

The strapless evening dress combined with the accessories of pearl chokers and short white gloves gained an introduction to the fashion world because of Mainbocher. These kinds of designs stylized by him appeared in the musical Call Me Madam in 1950, Wonderful Town in 1953, the Great Sebastians in 1956, and The Sound of music in 1959.

James Galanos opened Galanos Originals in 1951. The characteristic of Galanos designs included extensive use of silk fabrics and hand beading. His dresses were full and loose and often placed simple sheaths under chiffon coats. He received the Coty Fashion Award in 1954 and 1956 and was inducted into the Coty hall of Fame in 1959.

Earrings that include a stud worn at the ear lobe, and an attached chain that goes to the top of the ear by way of a second piercing or cuff, are known as slave earrings, or multiple-piercing earrings. These are even more unique looking than gold love knot earrings. Also included with the slave earrings, is an earring for the other ear, typically a stud or other small earring that complements the look of the other ear, without stealing attention from it.

The term “slave earring” was coined because of the way the two parts of the arrangement are chained together. When you look at these earrings you find that the ear lobe and upper cartilage are chained together in a much the same way that you may see in a slave bracelet or anklet arrangement.

Slave piercings were quite popular during the punk movement and have regained popularity after being seen in Star Trek which earned them the new moniker “Bajoran Earrings.” These sorts of jewelry arrangements are often worn by traditional Indian brides though they would feature a lot more embellishment than those we see in western fashion jewelry. While there are a few different treatments of the slave earring arrangement. In some a chain is also extended to a nose ring while others don’t really include an upper piercing, simply hanging a jewelry piece in the crease between the ear and the side of the wearer’s head rather than being attached firmly to the upper ear.

While a great deal of modern slave earrings retain their punk roots using chains and studs inset with stones but they have also reached out for a more refined appearance. If they are done properly, anyone can wear a slave earring. If you choose the proper earring for your desired look you can appear as feminine as you wish wearing a slave jewelry piece. TO achieve a more feminine look pick pieces with smaller pieces, more delicate chains and choose finer metals and precious gems.

When putting on slave earrings, the plainer earring should go in first. Avoid letting new tangles develop as you attach the stud of the slave earrings in your ear lobe. Take the second stud or cuff, and move it up in the direction of the top of your ear cartilage, carefully. Pin the stud, or attach the cuff. You may need to pinch the cuff gingerly, or tighten the earring stud, in order to ensure that it is securely fashioned.

You can maintain a feminine look, and still keep an edge, you should allow your earrings to be the focal point of your ensemble. You should stay away from other jewelry or accessories in the area of your slave earrings, that will cause visual crowding, and instead utilize bangles and rings.

You can add pizazz to a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, or embellish a pretty dress. There’s nothing wrong with livening your style with a punk-rock accent, but take care not to make the jump into a biker look. Use your slave earrings when you want to stray from the usual earrings of everyday, and let people know that you aren’t afraid to be unique.

It can be hard for people with sensitive ears to find earrings that are comfortable, especially with all the big hoops earrings out there. Here a few tips that can help you solve the problem of finding earrings for your sensitive ears. Most people with this problem are simply not able to handle most types of metal earrings. But there are earrings made especially for people with sensitive ears. People with skin sensitivities may not know that there are many options out there for people with metal allergies.

If you seek earrings that include “hypoallergenic” on their label, that is probably a good way to find a pair that will work with your sensitive skin. You can certainly do an online search using Google, or yahoo, or whatever engine you like. Enter the search as “earrings that are hypoallergenic” and you should probably get some good hits. This kind of search should generate many options for you. Also searching for earrings that are free of nickel can be helpful. You should also check if the online store you choose have a warranty or guarantee that you will not experience any sensitivity to their product.

Caution is needed as some earrings may be labeled “hypoallergenic” but they may still be made with metal alloys. While earrings made with metal alloys may contain very small amounts of nickel, this may still be enough to cause a reaction for people who are especially sensitive.

Skin sensitivity is different for every person. Some people are OK with a little bit of nickel in the metal they wear in their ears. Others will have a reaction just from a small amount. For those who are especially sensitive your earring choice should be narrowed to earrings made from 14k gold or sterling silver and should clearly indicate that they are also nickel free.

There are many websites online that offer earrings to people with metal sensitivities. Some of these websites are owned by people who have metal allergies themselves, so they can be very useful for finding the right type of earrings. These people know exactly how hard it can be to find earrings when you are sensitive to metal, and they can offer you many different solutions.

Stainless steel is the best kind of metal that can be used for earrings for people with sensitive ears. Stainless steel is the same type of metal that is used in medical and surgical rooms for instruments, equipment, implants and supplies.

Surgical grade stainless steel metal has been extensively tested and will not cause an allergic skin reaction. With a layer of gold on top of surgical stainless steel, you can have beautiful earrings without having to worry about skin irritation.

Now, Seth has written other articles on enhancing your natural beauty. Be sure to check out either jewelry tree stand or inexpensive handbags!

Any outfit you wear can be made even more elegant with clip-on earrings as an accessory. Clip-ons are the polar opposite of dangling earrings and have long been a choice for “fashionistas”, as they bring a different level of taste to an outfit. These earrings, often featuring faux emeralds, rubies, or other gemstones, can certainly stop traffic.

Many women for whatever reason have never had their ears pierced so they cannot wear traditional earrings. However, clip on earrings provide an excellent alternative that gives the same look but without having to have your ears pierced. On top of that, there are many other benefits that women have found from wearing clip on earrings.

Having pierced ears truly is not a viable option for many women around the world. Those who are fearful of having their ears pierced can list many factors behind their fear of the process. Reasons to avoid ear piercing include: low threshold for pain and/or anxiety at the mere prospect of the pain that could arise during and after the piercing procedure itself.

Women who want to enhance their ensembles with earrings, but who would rather not succumb to the permanence of ear piercing, can have a great option with clip on earrings. Long ago, clip on earrings were the only earrings one could buy, and now, they are once again coming to the fore as a viable accessory. A growing number of earring manufacturers are getting requests for clip on designs from their customers, and therefore want to make these earrings available.

This is the reason more and more clip on earrings are again available in a delightful variety of styles and designs. Another benefit of earrings that clip on is how safe they are to a woman’s health. With proper care, this style of earring should never cause problems with infection. This is perhaps the best reason of all to choose them.

Shops and boutiques are adding more clip on earrings, both vintage and contemporary, to their jewelry sections. To see just how great the selection of clip on earrings being offered, you need go no further than the Internet.

There is something for everyone so you will find something that fits what you are looking for. Clip on earrings are an eternal accessory that will never cease to impress with their variety and elegance. Ultimately, which specific ones you choose is up to your own individual style but no matter what you are looking for you will be satisfied.

Casey has written other articles on earrings, check out his sites: birthstone earrings and garnet stud earrings

How much thought do you put into keeping your jewelry organized? Do you have to untangle your chains and bracelets all too often before you go out? Is it far too troublesome to find the other earring of the pair you like? If you have trouble keeping your jewelry together or lose earrings all the time, not to worry. Try making use of a necklace stand.

One inexpensive idea is to use tackle boxes for your jewelry as well. Most tackle boxes are filled with tiny compartments that offer enough space to store rings, pendants, or earrings while keeping them safe and separate from each other.

It’s recommended that you hang your necklaces if possible, to prevent them from ending up in knotty lumps that are difficult to untangle. Ice cube trays and small boxes can also be used, as well as accordion-type fixtures that you can hang your jewelry on.

Another neat trick for preventing necklaces tangles is to thread a chain through a plastic straw, bring the ends together and fasten the clasp. In this way, your chains won’t get mixed up with each other. Then you can lay out your “straw chains” in your jewel box or inside your dresser drawers.

It’s also possible to use ring trees or jewelry box compartments to store rings for proper organization, allowing you to pick them out easily.

If you looking for a creative way to display your bracelets, necklaces and pendants, try a tie rack. Even watches and rings can be attached in eye-catching ways.

With the proper organization, you can keep your earrings together and not lose one of them. All you have to do interconnect the ends of the earrings by threading one earring post through the back of the other earring, clasping the earrings together and preventing them from becoming detached from one another, keeping them unified. If you don’t have butterfly back earrings, however, you might not be able to do this.

In the case of hoop earrings, you can still do this by clasping one loop inside the other loop, hooking them together and keeping them attached with closed clasps.

You can also use silverware trays, as the many different compartments are perfect for jewelry. There are also dresser drawer organizers and desk organizers that can fit this purpose.

For more info on jewelry, be sure to check out: jewelry necklace organizer or earring charms.

During’20 Indian Motorcycle came out with a outstanding motorcycle which was called Indian Scout motorcycle and was used by everyone from police to motorcycle racer. This motorcycle which was in use till’39 had a low frame and better handling. India was also producing engines for aircraft and motors for boats, air conditioner and cycles throughout World War II.

Indian Scout motorcycle had 37 cubic inch (596 cc) engine when it was initially introduced in’20. Later when popular American motorcycle Excelsior Super X was introduced with 45 cubic inches (745 cc) engine, Indian Scout also changed its engine to 45 cubic inch in’27.

A second reply was the’28 introduction of the 101 Scout, which some fans consider to be the height of Indian Motorcycle technology. There remain, however, enthusiasts who are happy with Indian’s use of the frame from its other superstar model, the Chief, in the Scout line starting in’31.

Between’32 and’41 the Scout fans saw a succession of smaller Scout motorcycles which may have been done to satisfy its supporters. These motorcycles had small engines of only 30.50 cubic inch and were called Scout Pony, the Junior Scout, and the Thirty-Fifty.

The two big motorcycle companies Indian Motorcycle Company and Harley Davidson were trying to out do each other in America in the early years of 20th century. The competition was well known and was written about in a book called Harley-Davidson and Indian Wars by Allan Girdler. The run away success of Scout was strongly opposed by Harley Davidson.

One testament to the speed and ruggedness of the’20 Indian Scout motorcycle was racer Burt Munro’s use of a modified’20 Scout to set land speed records between’62 and’67. Munro’s under-1000 cc world speed record in’67 still stands. At the time, Munro, a New Zealander, was 68 years old and was riding a motorcycle that was 47 years old. This and other achievements were dramatized in 2005 in the movie The World’s Fastest Indian.

Since’35 when the ownership of the Indian Motorcycle was transferred it came under a lot of problems having to discontinue manufacturing of all model of this brand in’46. The final crunch came in’77 when company had to declare itself bankrupt after changing of hands. The company was fighting a dispute in the court over the ownership of brand name all through’80s and90s.

IMCOA Licensing America won the battle of ownership and Federal court in Denver awarded the trademark in their favor. The Indian Motorcycle Company of America was reorganized with nine companies as conglomerate. The production of Scout motor cycle began in’99 and motorcycles of Scout model was being produced between 2001 and2003 when the company again went bankrupt.

In 2006 Indian Motorcycle was set up again in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. They started manufacturing the Chief model but Scout model was not being produced anymore.

The rush that a die hard lover of the classic Indian scout motorcyclegets from riding is not easy to put into words.
Antique silver forms many sought after items especially for those who have a fascination for rare artifacts. Antiques are available in a variety of forms and shapes including furniture, books, toys, glass and many other brilliant collectibles but probably the most popular amongst all is antique silver. It includes silver coins, jewelry like rings ,earrings and watches, silver-ware and much more.

The most common source of Antique Silver has to be the royal and noble families of yesteryears. Silverware was a staple in these families and today, exquisite silver articles such as plates, bowls, cutlery etc can be found for sale. Most of these showcase wonderful craftsmanship and are generally stamped with the family crest. Even though with the advent of electroplating technology silverware has become accessible to the common man today, such examples of old silver are still valued for their exclusivity.

Antique silver items are relatively commonplace in the antique market. However, it is important to possess some idea of the style and patterns of the available ones. There are hundreds of distinct style and patterns present in the market. To make a selection amongst them is really difficult. Moreover, authentication of a genuine silver piece is very important. You should make sure to look for the ‘hallmark’ that can provide you the information regarding the designer and the origin.

Fortunately, when it comes to Antique Silver, signs are commonly prevalent. Basically, when you look out for old silverware, you are not looking at modern electroplated silver but sterling silver objects. Since such objects generally come with the maker’s name embossed, they are much easier to locate if you are looking for such antiques.

Are you wondering about how to distinguish antique silver from the usual ones? Well you can opt for an acid test by your jeweler that will cost you a small amount. In addition, there are certain tips to test silver. First of all do not use a touchstone, test the silver piece yourself. Scuff or lightly scratch a minute spot underneath and then you should apply Nitric Acid on that spot. If the color changes to cloudy grey then it is a sterling silver and if it turns to black then it is Coin silver. If it turns to green it indicates that the item is plated.

Antique silver ware and sterling silver pieces exhibit a couple of distinctive properties. The stored value of these objects attracts all those who are interested in collecting antique silver items. As a collector, you will not only enjoy the utility, beauty and aesthetics but also the financial dividends. It is a type of asset that benefits collectors and investors against currency devaluation and inflation.

Antique Silver jewelry is also abundant and has been a regular favorite of collectors over time. Such jewelry may include many items such as a ring, a pair of earrings or something as exclusive as a silver watch. Silver bracelets have also been very popular as jewelry items. In fact, in the olden days, the concept of a “Lucky Charm Bracelet” made of silver was also very popular, especially in the upper strata of society. Such bracelets were usually encrusted with gems and form a wonderful collector’s item today.

You can come across antique silver while dealing with old coins. Collection of coins is a popular hobby but the one that features such antique pieces definitely gives the owner a high. Chinese antique coins, Roman antique coins and American antique coins form a part of this list of valuables.

Just acquiring an antique silver piece for your collection is not sufficient. You need to take adequate care of them. Preserve them in a different place as they are vulnerable to corrosion, scratches and dents. It is necessary that you clean antique silver with a soft cloth to ensure prolonged use.

Antique lighting can provide your house with a decor full of charm, tranquility and rustic feeling. Sometimes people think that antique lighting might not go with the modern decor of the house. Here is a solution. You can blend in the antique lighting fixtures with the modern decor by remodeling them to change its appearance accordingly.

The most common antique lighting fixtures are the chandeliers. Existent from centuries, these were part of every royal household and courts. Along with serving the purpose of lighting up the place, they also added to the decor. The ruling class and nobility were the ones who used these kinds of lighting fixtures. The light of the chandeliers came from candles or oiled wicks hidden within the fixtures.

To create a mystic ambience, you can create a candle light like ambience with your choice of bulbs. There are certain customized bulbs that shimmer to give candlelight like ambience. This is one antique lighting style which would emit an ancient aura but in complete sync with the state-of-the-art set up of your interior.

The antique lighting is a priceless piece of art made out of glass. These are regarded not only as invaluable but exhibit a lot about the rich cultural past. If you think of sharing the credits with the ancient kings by fixing such lightings then you need to look for the right things.

One of the most important things is the genuineness of the piece of antique lighting. You are not careful it you can lose money. Get the help of an expert to check the authenticity of the product, or visit a reputed shop which can provide you with the genuine lighting. You can also visit few auctions to know in details about such kind of lightings, their authenticity and so on.

Apart from auction houses, curio or antique shops also keep these articles. The more exclusive your light is, the more expensive the cost could be. Naturally, antique lightings are not newly manufactured and brand new. There has been a cost of maintenance which contributes to the antique value and the final price. Some of the popular fixtures are:

- Smoke and Bells- Dating back to the 1870s, these lighting fixtures were quite popular in those times. Such was their popularity that they had left a mark on the then society itself. The burning gas flames emitted smoke in ordinary lamps of those times. With the use of the smoke bell, the effects of the smoke were minimized.

-Tasso Sconce- This particular antique lighting fixture used a single light. The Beaux Arts shade of these lamps was complimented by the brass metal finish.

-Moose Antlers- This type of antique lighting was created during the 1850s. It has a 2 tier lighting fixture with eight lamps. The total width of the masterpiece is around five feet.

The demand for such antique lighting has increased significantly in the past few years. People prefer to experiment with the decor of their house, therefore the demand. The recent trend in antique lighting is the blend of both modern and old. This brings out a new form of style.

A thing that will definitely feature in the list of the most precious things is gold. You can say that there are a whole lot of precious and semi precious stones as well but they can hardly match up to the popularity of gold throughout the globe. When you set out to buy antique gold, you are dealing with pieces of this precious metal that date back to antiquity. There are different pieces that comprise an antique gold collection. They are diverse in every aspect, be it their size, forms or even their place of origin.

There are a number of forms in which antique gold is available. Jewelry is the most common form in which the gold is available. If you know how to trace it, you can collect gold jewelry pieces dating back to centuries. The common examples are family heirlooms that have been passed on from one generation to the next. These old family heirlooms are also valuable for the long history associated to each piece.

An antique gold ring is perhaps the most common of all jewelry found in the world. A collector can find immense value and worth of such a piece. A particular piece of antique jewelry can give us an in-depth knowledge about the details of the craftsmanship that was in vogue at the time the piece was crafted. It may also tell a story by itself. Many antique gold jewelry specimens carry emblems and inscriptions that offer valuable hints to the origin of the piece and the owner of the piece as well.

Exquisitely fabricated gold jewelry such as earrings and necklaces are also found when looking for antique jewelry. Unlike modern jewelry which is minimalist, such pieces are generally elaborate and vary in design according to their origins and the tastes of the old owners. Some notable antique gold jewelry harks back to specific eras such as Victorian, Georgian or Elizabethan.

Within the scope of antique gold, golden watches have become a separate field of study altogether. Over the past two centuries, great watchmakers, many of them Swiss, have manufactured exquisite golden watches, often studded with jewels, both on the outside and within the watch movements. These pocket watches are invaluable collector’s items today and at least one golden watch definitely needs to be part of your collection if you are serious about antiques.

You must be wondering where to get antique gold? The answer to this is the World Wide Web. Here is a great opportunity for an antique collector to interact with individuals who deal in such stuff instead of having to visit antique dealers, pawn shops or even auction houses in person. There are many people who wish to sell of their family heirloom possessions and looking for a potential buyer. You do need to be careful when you are dealing over the Internet. If you are not aware of the ways to determine an authentic antique, you may end up buying a fake one.
